Fort Rucker, located in Dale County Alabama, is primarily flight training base for Army Aviation and is home to the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Rucker also houses the United States Army Aviation Museum. At any one time there are approximately 6,000 residents on the base.
The main post has entrances from three bordering cities, Daleville, Ozark and Enterprise. Each of these town have great locations for homes near Fort Rucker.
Daleville has about 4,500 residents and it just to the south of Fort Rucker and is so close has the nickname "Gateway to Fort Rucker".
Daleville has one elementary school, serving grades K through 6 Windham Elementary School; , and one high school, serving grades 7 through 12 Daleville High School. The high school's JROTC program has held the rating of "Honor Unit With Distinction", the highest possible unit ranking within the JROTC program, for the past 33 consecutive years.
Ozark is the county seat of Dale County, and has about 15,000 residents. The entrance to the base from Ozark is located on the north side. Ozark Schools are the Carroll High School (grades 9 through 12), Carroll Career Center (grades 9 through 12), D.A. Smith Middle School (grades 6 through 8), Harry M. Mixon Elementary School (grades 1 through 5), Joseph W. Lisenby Elementary School (grades 1 through 5) and Mamie Thompkins School (Kindergarten). There are two private schools in Ozark, Harvest Christian School and Dale County Christian School (both grades K through 12)
Enterprise is the largest of the three major gateway cities to Fort Rucker with over 26,000 residents. Enterprise is located to the west of Fort Rucker and offers several entrances to the base. Enterprise is home to the Enterprise branch of the Enterprise-Ozark Community College. Enterprise has it's own school district. The Elementary Schools Grades 1-6 are College Street Elementary School, Harrand Creek Elementary School, Hillcrest Elementary School, Holly Hill Elementary School, Pinedale Elementary School, and the Rucker Blvd. Elementary School. There are several Junior High Schools including Grades 8-9 Dauphin Junior High School and Enterprise Junior High School and the Grade 7 Coppinville Junior High School. There is also the Enterprise High School for Grades 10- 12.
